Committee on Scholarly Communication (CSC)
The UCSB Committee on Scholarly Communication (CSC) was created by the Faculty Legislature in 2004 with the following charge:
- Promoting education and advocacy related to scholarly communication in collaboration with Senate councils and committees related to research policy and resources and to faculty promotion and development; with divisional executive committees; and with campus advisory committees related to technology, research, copyright and other relevant issues.
- Analyzing issues of scholarly publishing and communication as they apply in the UCSB context, and develop local responses to relevant actions and initiatives carried out by systemwide committees and at other campuses.
- Proposing short- and long-term strategies to inform UCSB faculty about these issues.
- Suggesting and endorsing avenues for individual and collective action including changes in academic policy, new forms of publication and dissemination, changes in legal and economic models, enhanced uses of technology, new library collecting policies and other means.
The creation of this web page is one of the initiatives the CSC has taken to fulfill its charge.
